À quelques minutes de Saint-Émilion, sur la commune de Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens au lieu-dit Grand Bert, se trouve le Château Grand Bert. Ses 12 hectares de vignoble, répartis autour d’une jolie demeure du XVIème siècle, contemplent le fameux clocher de l’église de Saint-Émilion. Ce terroir spécifique du Saint-Émilionnais nous permet d'élaborer des vins basés sur la finesse et le côté séduisant, notamment grâce à cet aspect onctueux en bouche. Le Château Grand Bert produit environ 75 000 bouteilles en AOC Saint-Émilion (Cuvée Tradition) et Saint-Émilion Grand Cru (Cuvée Grand Cru et Cuvée 1er).

Château Grand Tuillac

C’est sur la commune de Saint-Philippe-d’Aiguilhe, au lieu-dit Tuillac, que l’on découvre le Château Grand Tuillac. Situé sur les plus hauts coteaux de la rive droite du Bordelais, le Château Grand Tuillac étend ses 45 hectares de vignoble sur un terroir très qualitatif composé d'argiles et de blocs calcaires. C'est ce terroir que nous retrouvons sur les plus prestigieux vignobles de Saint-Émilion, qui nous permet d'élaborer une qualité de vin reconnue. Élégance et tradition sont l’expression de ce terroir avec une production annuelle moyenne de 300 000 bouteilles. Le rapport qualité/prix est un véritable atout du Château Grand Tuillac !

Château Grand Tuillac

Our story

From Lavigne to Poitevin

In 1992, two years after their wedding, Sophie and Laurent Poitevin decided to take over the destiny of Château Grand Bert and Château Grand Tuillac. The two properties were handed-down from Sophie's parents and Laurent's parents in law, Philippe and Françoise Lavigne. Along with the properties, knowledge was also handed-down. Philippe Lavigne passed on all his know-how to Sophie and Laurent to uphold the family expertise. Over the course of the last 27 years Sophie and Laurent have kept on perfecting the wine fabrication and the management of the family business.

Both are driven by passion and a willingness to transmit this great tool to their children Thomas and Pierre, just like their parents did before them. Thomas, 27 years old, joined the family operation three years ago as head of culture and cellar master. Pierre, 24, just joined the adventure as commercial director. The two of them make the 7th generation of winegrowers of the two properties and plan to add their own touch whilst making sure to keep a friendly, elegant and quality-driven atmosphere that characterises Château Grand Bert and Château Grand Tuillac so well.

1900

Union of the two Châteaux : Wedding of Stélina Lafugie (Château Grand Tuillac) and Joseph Lavigne (Château Grand Bert), followed by 4 generations of Lavigne families.

1917

First vintages bottled at Château Grand Bert : at this time the majority of vineyards sold their wine in bulk, in barrels or cisterns. Only great Châteaux bottle their wine. It was at that time that Joseph Lavigne decided to market his wines in Bordeaux bottles in a more qualitative spirit.

1930

Château Grand Tuillac changes its AOC : AOC Saint Philippe near Saint-Émilion becomes AOC Bordeaux supérieur.

1945

Acquisition of 12 more acres at Château Grand Tuillac.

1956

Plantation de 5Ha de vignes au Château Grand Bert.

1980

Acquisition of 12 more acres at Château Grand Tuillac.

1988

Château Grand Tuillac changes its AOC : from Bordeaux supérieur to the newly created AOC Castillon Côtes-de-Bordeaux.

1997

Planting of 5 acres of vines at Château Grand Bert (27 acres in total).

1998

Planting of 12 more acres at Château Grand Tuillac.

2009

Reconstruction of the winery at Château Grand Bert : the winery has been completely ergonomically renovated to elevate the quality of the wines even more. It is equipped with the best wine production tools such as thermoregulation in order to produce great wines.

2011

Creation of PLVins Selection : PLVins Selection is the trading company of the Poitevin family intended for professional clients. This company makes it possible to distribute other types of wines and champagnes from a selection of wine-growing friends, in addition to the family range.

2012

Thermoregulation equipment at Château Grand Tuillac : as the configuration of the barrel hall of the Château has evolved over the generations, it is quite natural that Sophie and Laurent Poitevin equipped their tanks with temperature control to optimize the wine making process.

2013

Acquisition of a high precision grape harvesting machine : the grape harvesting machine is one of the most important tools of the vineyard. It will make it possible to reap the long-awaited fruit, product of a year of labour. The Poitevin family has therefore chosen to invest in the best available machine on the market. This machine harvests grapes with the utmost care and proceeds to clean and sort them before a manual sorting is even done. A technological marvel!
